Increasing Motivation in the Workplace

“If you are persistent, you will get it. If you are consistent, you will keep it.” – Harvey Mackay

With Christmas fast approaching this is the time that your team need to be fully motivated and productive to end the year on a high. Motivated employees should be at the heart of a business’ year-long plans and will help with success of your business. Here are a few easy ways to improve employee motivation:

Setting goals

Human nature means that we are target-driven individuals. We all like to have something to aim for and work towards, as long as we know it will be recognised when we get there. Setting goals are a great way of motivating your team to work hard.

Encourage innovation

Getting your staff to think creatively isn’t always easy. But it is important to motivate your staff to take risks and be innovative, even if it means they will make a mistake now and then. One of the virtues of an agile work environment is that when your employees aren’t afraid to fail, they will become more daring, making them more apt to generate work that could potentially set your organization apart from the competition.

Respect their work-life balance

When employees feel a greater sense of control and ownership over their own lives, they tend to have better relationships with management and are able to leave work issues at work and home issues at home. Balanced employees tend to feel more motivated and less stressed out at work, which thereby increases company productivity.

Provide Incentives

Offer people incentives, you need to ensure that if the target is reached there is some sort of recognition for doing so. Either with something small like a gift certificate or something more substantial such as a performance-based bonus or salary increase.
